Katapola is the main harbour of the island Amorgos and the location of the interesting church of our Lady "Kotopoliani" was build on the site of a temple of Apollo, the ancient god of music. The capital of the island is called Chora or Amorgos, a typical Cycladic settlement is built around and beneath the venetian castle. To the north east of Chora at the foot of a steep rock is the impressive white coloured Byzantine monastery of our lady "Hozovotiassa". One of the most important monuments of its kind.
