Scotland - Eilean Donan Castle, Loch Duich - The Scottish Highlands

The island's original castle was built in the thirteenth century; it became a stronghold of the Clan Mackenzie and their allies, the Clan MacRae. However, in response to the Mackenzies' involvement in the Jacobite rebellions early in the 18th century, government ships destroyed the castle in 1719. The present-day castle is Lieutenant-Colonel John Macrae-Gilstrap's 20th-century reconstruction of the old castle.
The castle is regularly described as one of the most photographed monuments in Scotland, and is a recognised Scottish icon, frequently appearing on packaging and advertising for shortbread, whisky and other products. Eilean Donan has made several appearances in films, beginning with Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1948 and The Master of Ballantrae in 1953. The castle was the setting for the 1980 short film Black Angel, filmed to accompany screenings of The Empire Strikes Back in cinemas. In 1984, Scottish singer and composer Jesse Rae filmed his music video "Over The Sea" at the location. It featured prominently in Highlander (1986) as the home of Clan MacLeod. It was the backdrop to a dance scene in the Bollywood movie Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998. In 1999, it served as the Scottish headquarters of MI6 in The World Is Not Enough In 2007, Eilean Donan stood in for Fotheringhay Castle in England in Elizabeth: The Golden Age. In the movie Made of Honor Eilean Donan can be seen as home of the groom's family. The Tamil song "Kandukondain Kandukondain" from the movie of the same name was filmed in this location.

Scotland - Linlithgow Palace

Famous for being where Mary Queen of Scots was born, this impressive castle ruin used to be a residence for the Scottish royal families of the Renaissance.

In Outlander it featured as the infamous Wentworth prison where Jamie Fraser was incarcerated and tortured by Black Jack Randall.

Mull of Kintyre, Kintyre Peninsula, Agryll and Bute, Scotland - Mull of Kintyre Lighthouse looking towards Rathlin Island

The Mul of Kintyre is the southwesternmost tip of the Kintyre Peninsula (formerly Cantyre) in southwestt Scotland in the region of Argyll and Bute. From here the Antrim coast of Northern Ireland is visible on a calm and clear day, and a historic lighthouse, the second commissioned in Scotland, guides shipping in the interverning North Channel.  The area has been immortalised in popular culture by the 1977 hit song "Mull of Kintyre" by Kintyre resident Paul McCartneys band Wings.

The Mull has been an important landbridge throughout history. It is thought that it was used by early humans in their travels from continental Europe to Ireland via Britain.  In more recent times it was used again by the Scotti when they travelled from Ireland to establish the kingdm of Dal Riata in modernday Argyll.

The steep cliffs and hills rising out of the sea on all sides, along with the frequent sea mists, have made the area a hazard of flights, and it has been the site of many air crashes throughout its history.  The  remains of a number of Second World War planes litter the area, and a notorious recent example was a Chinook helicopter crash on 2 June 1994.

Rona Island, Inner Hebrides, Scotland, UK

Rona is a small island in the Scottish Inner Hebrides.
Ronas name is believed to be of Old Norse origin meaning "rough island" and probably reflects a Viking settlement.

There are the ruins of a small 14th century chapel at the south end of the island. The structure, probably a monks cell, is enclosed by a wall within which is the islands only gravestone.
In the 16th century Rona became a refuge for pirates who made a base at Acarsaid Mor, then known as "Port of the robbers".
