Greece - Kavala

Kavala, the prefectural capital, rises like an amphitheatre up the sides of the foothills of mountain Simrolo. It is a modern commercial city and it has many features belonging to its colourful past.  The harbour is particilarly picturesque with its countless brightly coloured fishing boats moored along the waterfront. Other important places to visit are the old walls, the byzantine castle, the Kamores, the aqueduct erected by Suleiman the Magnificent in the 10th century. Kavala is in the geographic district Macedonia prefecture of Kavala.
