I visited this beautiful town some years ago.
Saint Marks Basilica is the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Venice. It is the most famous of the citys churches and one of the best known examples of Ialo-Byzantine architecture. It lies at the eastern end of the Piazza San Marco, adjacent and connected to the Doges Palace. Originally it was a chapel of the Doges, and has only been the city cathedral since 1878, when it became the seat of the Patriarch of Venice, archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Venice, formerly at San Pietro di Castello
