Usa - Dutch siblings, Ellis Island, New York

Over 100 million Americans - one third of the entire US population - can trace their ancestry to immigrants who first arrived at Ellis Island.  From the time it opened in 1892 until 1924, Ellis Island processed over 12 million immigrants who spent two to five hours on the Island being prepared for entry into the US.  They were asked 29 questions including name, occupation, and the amount of money they carried.  It was important to the American goverment that the new arrivals could support themselves, and $18 was considered the minimum amount necessary for a family to get started.  Today the island is part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument and home to The Ellis Island Immigration Museum
